Owner's Manual · v2.1

Your family's vault

Passwords, documents and the things your family would need if you weren't there. Kept on a device in your home. Not on anybody's server, including ours.

Start here — about two minutes

You do not have to read this manual before using your Vault. Three steps get you running; everything after that explains what you just did and what else it can do.

  1. Open these instructions on a computer or a second phone. In step 2 your phone joins the Vault's own Wi-Fi, which takes it offline — intended, the Vault has no internet by design. Keep the instructions somewhere that stays readable.
  2. Scan the Wi-Fi code on the Vault's screen and join. The screen rotates through several codes every few seconds. Wait for the one captioned “Scan to join Wi-Fi”, or swipe to it if your screen is touch-sensitive.
  3. Open http://192.168.4.1 and follow the setup. There is no app to install and no account to create.

Read this before you begin

We cannot open your vault, and we cannot recover it for you. There is no "forgot password" link, because there is no account and no copy of your data anywhere but this device. That is the entire point of the product, and it is also the one thing that can go badly wrong.

So the very first thing you will do is write down your recovery words. The device will not let you store anything until you have. It will feel like being nagged. It is the most important two minutes you will spend with it.

What you can do with it#

Keep passwordsAnd have the device type them for you into any computer, without installing anything.
Keep documentsPolicies, ID copies, property papers, medical records, school certificates — up to 64GB, depending on your model. Needs a microSD card, formatted FAT32.
Share, carefullyYour spouse sees the insurance policy without seeing your bank password. You choose, item by item.
Plan for the worstPeople you trust can reach what you decide they should reach, if something happens to you.
Work anywherePower cut, dead router, one bar of signal. It never needed the internet.

If you'd rather not read anything#

The manual#

If you read only two pages

Read 01 Setting up and 06 Recovery. Everything else can wait until you need it. Those two cannot.

Not sure which model you have? Chapter 11 tells you. More about the product, downloads and guides live at vault.bendflex.in.
